Over 100,000 businesses and millions of people use 1Password to protect their most important information, and we believe those people – and the companies they work for – shouldn’t have to choose between security and productivity. We see security as a human challenge, rather than a technological one. It’s hard work, but our mission has always been to ease the tension between security and convenience and help people navigate the digital world without fear or friction. Human-centric security is part of our DNA, but human-centricity is also the backbone of our culture. We encourage big ideas and new ways of working that help us to make the online world a safer place for everyone.

We’re looking for a designer with a systems-mindset and experience working on the complete systems life-cycle, from establishing a practice that endures to design, build, document, to maintaining a library used by many product teams. With a focus on accessibility and inclusion, you will work as a part of the Design System team that consists of Engineers, Content and Product designers, to help us grow 1Password multi-platform design system. You will be working with product teams across 1Password to identify opportunities to create new patterns and components that fit their workstreams, as well as providing guidance around using those defined re-usable patterns.

You are passionate about creating and maintaining design systems, and helping product designers in applying them across apps and services to create a suite of elegant provider products. You are focused on standards and consistency across products and services for developers and content partners. You will contribute to the strategy for the design system and drive alignment with cross-discipline teams to help shape the design system.

Strong communication skills are a must, as well as a readiness to take risks, problem solve, attention to detail, and the ability to mediate and cope with rapid change.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven track record for defining design systems, components library, and systems for reuse across multiple products in a suite

  • Track record of impact on defining effective processes for design systems

  • Experience designing and launching for both desktop and mobile environments

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, inclusive design practices, and accessibility features

  • A proven ability to cultivate an environment of teamwork and cooperation, and build partnerships across multiple design organizations

  • Knowledge and understanding of front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

  • Extraordinary ability to advocate for UI consistency with designers, engineers, product managers, and executives through writing, visuals, and presentations

What you can expect:

  • Together with a team of designers, you will work to mature and grow 1Password Design System through collaborative design of patterns and components

  • Identify opportunities to create new components and patterns within existing workstreams of product teams, and provide guidance around their usage

  • Actively contribute to the definition of processes around usage and maintenance of the designs system components

  • Present the system’s mission, library, and process to other groups, including product managers, content specialists, QA, and other design and development teams throughout the organization

  • Help to drive the scope of systems concerns and relevant products to adopt it

  • Contribute to help identify, prioritize, and monitor task, progress of design, development, and documentation across team members

  • Identify opportunities to improve the user experience and champion your ideas within Design department and across the company

United States-based roles only: Minimum annual salary for this role is $129,000USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs. All employees are owners of 1Password and receive an equity grant as part of their total package.
